If We Shadows

A comedy monologue from A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare. About 1 min.

Puck steps forward at the end of the play and asks the audience to forgive it all.

Puck
teens to 30s. A mischievous fairy saying goodnight
  1. Alone, after the fairies have blessed the house and gone.

  2. If we shadows have offended, Think but this, and all is mended,

  3. That you have but slumber’d here While these visions did appear.

  4. And this weak and idle theme, No more yielding but a dream,

  5. Gentles, do not reprehend.

  6. If you pardon, we will mend.

  7. And, as I am an honest Puck,

  8. If we have unearnèd luck Now to ’scape the serpent’s tongue,

  9. We will make amends ere long;

  10. Else the Puck a liar call.

  11. So, good night unto you all.

  12. Give me your hands, if we be friends,

  13. And Robin shall restore amends.
