Hi, everyone. For those who don’t know me, I’m Dev, I’ve been Marcus’s best friend since we were seven, and I’m going to tell you a story about Cancún.

Actually, I’m not going to tell you a story about Cancún.

Marcus knows the story. Marcus is giving me a look right now that says “please.” And I respect that. I respect the look.

I’ll tell you a different story. When we were nine, Marcus got a hamster. He named it Gerald. Gerald escaped the first night. And Marcus, nine years old, stayed up until four in the morning with a flashlight and a piece of lettuce, sitting on the kitchen floor, waiting. Not chasing. Waiting. Because he said, “If I chase him, he’ll think I’m scary.”

And at four in the morning, Gerald walked out from under the fridge and climbed into his hand.

That’s who you married. A man who will sit on the floor all night with lettuce rather than scare you.

To Marcus and Priya. And to Gerald, who I think we can all agree is up there somewhere, under a big fridge in the sky.
