- Clerk
- 20s to 30s. Follows the policy, mostly
- Donna
- 30s to 50s. Married for eleven hours
- Clerk
Hi, what are we returning today?
- Donna
This dress.
- Clerk
Okay. Is there a reason for the return?
- Donna
It didn’t work out.
- Clerk
The fit?
- Donna
The marriage.
- Clerk
I’m so sorry.
- Donna
Don’t be. Eleven hours. Shortest one in my family. My aunt held the record at six weeks.
- Clerk
I can only take returns within thirty days, unworn, with tags.
- Donna
It’s been twenty-nine days. And the tags are right here.
She holds up a ziplock bag.
- Clerk
It has... cake on it.
- Donna
That’s frosting. Cake would be a stain. Frosting brushes off.
- Clerk
Ma’am, it was clearly worn.
- Donna
For eleven hours. Less than a day. That’s barely a test drive.
- Clerk
I don’t think I’m allowed to...
- Donna
Can I tell you something? He proposed in this store. Right by the shoes. So in a way, the store owes me.
- Clerk
Store credit.
- Donna
I’ll take it. Where are the shoes?
